Work’s been hellish of late. The normal deadline stress has been compounded by a looming vacation that has me making up for the week of work I’ll miss for this month’s cycle. And then there’s the despondence of watching the magazine industry burning down, me sitting inside the flaming building and trying to ignore the siren blare in order to preserve my composure.
BUT, today I got to conduct a test of six grills on the roof of my apartment (July issue, Men’s Journal, pick it up…in two months), and it was a welcome respite. Adam Perry Lang, founder of Daisy May’s BBQ in NYC came by to cook up salmon and a few insanely thick slabs of cow pieces provided by meat master Pat La Frieda.
If I didn’t already have a girlfriend, I would have made gentle, beseeching love to the meat, then brought it home to meet my family. We would put the dishes in the dishwasher together after dinner and then look at old photographs of me AND WE WOULD BE IN LOVE FOREVER.
And I was there TOO…..
